GIBSON EAS CLASSIC II

ACOUSTIC GUITAR / BOZEMAN, MT

PROTOTYPE - 1 OF 2

  • Serial number: #92182001; Located inside guitar

  • Prototype: 1 of 2; 1 black / 1 white

  • Double cutaway

  • Narrow or slim body

  • Amp pickup on side

This guitar was purchased around the Fall of 1993 at the House of Guitars in Rochester, NY.  At the time, we did not know that it was a prototype, but liked the size, the style, the sound, and the slimness of the body.

In the Fall of 1994, two representatives from Gibson were at the 'House' to restring any Gibson guitar brought in by the owners.  Ren Ferguson, VP of Research and Development was there and was amazed that I had this guitar.

The story he told us was this: this guitar was one of two prototypes that he had designed and the one I had bought was thought to have burned in a fire at Gibson.  Ren took a business card (see photo) and wrote on it to verify what the guitar was and who owned the other, white one.  A Nashville songwriter owned the white one at the time (named on card).  I have photos of Ren holding the guitar on that day which hopefully can be seen, but the buyer will own the pictures and the signed card.

The guitar has had no alterations to it.  The fret is rosewood.  The guitar was inspected by a guitar expert in MA and the only repair he made to it was to tighten the screw on the bottom where the strap hooks.  He checked the pickup and said that it was an older model and that at times the lower strings could not be heard, but he did not want to alter the guitar by adding a newer pickup.

The case is a hard body case.  Guitar is in excellent condition and has been played, but with great care. The guitar is 41 inches long by 16 inches wide at widest point.

Please ask all questions before bidding!  I have represented it to the best of my ability and will try and answer any questions I can.  It is privately owned. I will be out of town for the holiday, but will try to check emails for any questions.
