This is one of those instruments that makes my job such an absolute pleasure? one VERY sweet old Gibson LG-2 acoustic guitar that easily rates as very good overall condition. A really solid player?s instrument, surprisingly full rich tone especially for a smaller parlor size body? this one is a true fingerpicker?s delight that also does a great job when strumming chords as well and a real blues tone machine. This vintage instrument is circa 1948-1951 with 14-frets to the body, total 19 fret Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, Brazilian bridge, teardrop tortoise plastic pickguard, mahogany back and sides, and X-braced spruce top.

Nice comfortable playing action, frets in great shape, no issues or problems. We had to fit a new set of bridge pins, since the old original ones deteriorated and shrank over the years? there were 3 of the original pins left when we acquired the guitar and they will be included. At some point the previous owner replaced the tuners. I?m sure this was because the old celluloid buttons had also deteriorated over time and most likely crumbled to dust, a very common occurrence on Kluson tuners from this era. The set of tuners they used as replacements lined up perfectly, original screw holes and all, but were a really cheap set and this is just simply too sweet an old guitar, so we replaced the cheap tuners with a new quality Kluson reproduction set that keeps the vintage appearance but functions far smoother than even the originals would have. At some point during its 60+ years, the back and sides have been refinished. This was most likely done quite a few years ago and was obviously a professional job, perhaps even at the Gibson factory, and so well done that most people would not even notice it. It appears that they also did just an over spray on the back of the neck at that same time and as you can see in the close-up pictures below it has worn down in a place from the player?s thumb over the years, which would also indicate that the finish work was done quite some time ago. The headstock and the sunburst top (face) of the guitar were left original and both have the typical ?spider webbing? in the finish that you would expect with an old late 40?s Gibson. Other than what I have described there appear to be no other modifications and no repairs and this fine old guitar is ready to play.

On the LG-2 model, Gibson changed from the script lettering headstock logo to a block lettering Gibson logo in 1948 and as you can see this guitar has the block lettering logo. The FON number stamped down inside on the neck block of this guitar is very faint but is comprised of numbers only. In 1952 Gibson started using FON numbers with a letter prefix, using a reverse alphabetical scheme the FON numbers started with Z in front of the numbers, in 1953 with a Y, and so on. So with this guitar having both the block lettering logo, and an all numbers FON stamp, that would date manufacture to circa 1948-1951 on this one. This guitar also has 19 frets and the smaller teardrop pickguard which Gibson changed to 20 frets and a larger pickguard in 1955, but the headstock logo and numbers only FON are what narrow it down to that 1948-1951 era.

Also included and shown above is a nice used arch lid hardshell case, in excellent condition with only a few scuffs. This case protects this LG2 very well and although the case is only a few years old it has the style and looks of older cases, actually looks really good with this guitar.
NO RESERVE, so good luck to all! This instrument will arrive, professionally set-up and adjusted with a new set of strings installed, so when the winning bidder receives it all he/she will have to do is enjoy it.
