DESCRIPTION
Serial number 67958 dates 1921. One of the most beautiful and interesting American guitars ever made. Probably the first true cutaway. The real intent with this thing was an instrument visually compatible with the mandolin orchestras of the time. Thus a guitar with a scroll and a horn. Not an easy luthier feat. The most expensive guitar in its day. Figured wood; fancy tuners; beautiful Fleur de lis and diamond inlay. All parts are original. Rare to find the tail piece in good condition. They say Mr Broonzy didn't actually own one of these. He just borrowed it to look good. Walk into your next jam session with this guitar and they'll think you are the King of France. Old case is not original but looks good and fits well.
This is a great sounding guitar and a lot of fun to play. The neck is like a baseball bat. Board is nicely radiused. Fine thin bar frets. Perfect setup; low action. Plays great with no buzzing or intonation issues. The tone is almost exactly like an oval hole L-4. If you can't find a 20 piece mandolin orchestra it works real good on Eddie Lang stuff, ragtime, and blues. I have loved this guitar and I will miss it when it leaves the building.
CONDITION
Various chips, scuffs, and dings. Two Fine top cracks on the upper treble bout are tight and can't progress. Shallow play wear patch around the sound hole would be covered if you can find a pick guard. (maybe not that difficult because it had the same exact PG they used on the old L-1... a very common guitar). Otherwise everything is in pretty nice condition and needs no work. You won't look this good when you are 90 years old.
SHIPPING
$40 anywhere in the continental US for professional packing and full insurance with UPS ground service (3-5 days).
