The story behind this guitar is, in the 1990's ( I believe 1994), Gibson began working on producing an Elvis Presley Collector Guitar Series. The first of these series would be based on 2 of Elvis' J-200 guitars that he used during his career. The first being probably his most famous guitar, a 1956 Gibson J-200 Acoustic Guitar (blond in color). The second was Elvis' 1974 Black (ebony) Gibson J-200 that was given to him by one of his biggest fans, Jim Curtain. Both of the original guitars had Elvis' name inlaid in the neck of the guitars. When Gibson was designing these guitars they made a few prototypes of each of these guitars. They made prototypes with and without his name inlaid on the neck. When they decided to produce them in a collector series of only 250 each per guitar, they decided, and God only knows why, to not do the Black Gibson with Elvis' name on the neck. They still had 2 prototypes with Elvis' name on the neck, like Elvis' original. Here's where I come into the story. I bought the guitar online from a music store in Nashville, TN. The owner of the music store told me that the guitar was given to a Gibson employee as a gift for his years of service at his retirement. He held the guitar for a few years and then decided to sell it. I bought it from the music store whom was selling it on his behalf. I have owned the guitar for the past 9 years. I am a former Elvis Tribute Artist and used it on stage a few times. The guitar is 18 years old and has some minor wear. I have included photos of any damaged areas. There are only 3 of these particular guitars officially made by Gibson in the world. The original, which is at Graceland. The other prototype, which to my knowledge is on display at Gibson Nashville, and the 2nd prototype which I own. Good luck to all bidders......TCB!
